REGISTRATION PROCESS FOR NEW ZEALAND
PCNZ or Pharmacy Council of New Zealand is the body that oversees the registration and licensure for pharmacists in New Zealand. Registration eligibility for B Pharm, M Pharm and Pharm D certified candidates.
The first step is Credential Verification, where all your documents will be verified to check your eligibility.
Secondly, you will be required to complete the IELTS or OET.
You also need to complete the KAPS Examination (Knowledge Assessment of Pharmaceutical Sciences).
You will also need to complete the Law and Ethics Examination.
On completing the Law and Ethics Exam, you will be needed to take up an Internship as a Pharmacy Technician for six months.
Need to complete a Written and Oral Exam on completion of a six months internship.
On completing the above mentioned steps you will be eligible to register as a Pharmacist in New Zealand.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
Language requirements are based on clearing of either the Occupational English Test (OET) with a score of ‘A’ or ‘B’ in all four elements or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with an overall Band score of 7.5 (with a minimum score of 7 in each of the four components). The OET or IELTS is an essential requirement for enrolment into the PCNZ Stage I examination.
Know about STAGE I EXAMINATION (KAPS)
The Stage I KAPS Exam consists of two papers of multiple choice questions that cover Pharmaceutical Chemistry.
Pharmaceutics
Pharmacology
Physiology and therapeutics.
Each paper has duration of 2 hours and requires 50% each to pass. The exam is held in New Zealand but can also be written in our five centres in India (Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad). The KAPS exams are conducted in April, June and October each year.
A skill assessment letter for migration purposes is issued after successful completion of the Stage I KAPS Exam.
Know about STAGE II EXAMINATION
Unlike Australia, New Zealand has an additional exam to complete called the Law and Ethics exam. It is mandatory to complete this exam within 2 years of completing the KAPS exam. This exam is conducted to check a candidate’s knowledge of the code of law and ethics as per the practice of pharmacy in New Zealand. During this period the candidate is not eligible to commence their internship.
Know about STAGE III EXAMINATION
The Stage III Examination (Oral and Written Exam) has different testing factors in written, practical and oral segments covering the practice of pharmacy and is conducted in the state/territory in which the supervised practice was undertaken. The written exam is a computerized multiple-choice question exam and is conducted three times a year. Candidates should pass this exam in order to appear for the following exam. The next exam OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Exam) is a conducted in May and November each year.
What is PCNZ CERTIFICATE?
A PCNZ certificate is issued to the candidates who successfully complete all the 3 examinations and are judged competent based on the Competence Standards for Pharmacists. This would entitle the candidate to apply for registration with any of the New Zealand pharmacy registering professionals and explore job opportunities in New Zealand. The PCNZ certificate is recognized by all the pharmacy registering authorities in New Zealand.
